| Overview |
 As our client’s Database Infrastructure Lead, you will be tasked with maintaining and advancing the health and performance of the servers used by the Research Department. The scope of responsibility is centered on the administration and optimization of 24x7 mission-critical Microsoft SQL-Server databases and also extends to responsibility for other server types (application, web, & file). The environment is almost entirely composed of hardware from Dell and system software from Microsoft. Ideally, candidates will also have some background in security and could design a plan that allows system administration to be done without exposing critical business logic or databases. Our client manages global investments for a wide array of institutional clients, including foreign governments and central banks, corporate and public, pension funds, university endowments and charitable foundations. Our client is based in Southern Connecticut.
Responsibilities would include: - For all server infrastructure (MS-SQL Server, Microsoft IIS Web Servers, Windows Server 2003/2008, Microsoft Sharepoint):
- Ensuring excellent administration necessary to maintain on-going performance & reliability
- Advancement of design, implementation, administration and governance to improve performance, reliability, and security
- Monitoring and reporting throughput and latency performance
- Planning and executing server capacity increases
- Rationalization, planning and execution of software patches and upgrades
- Providing L2 & L3 support for emergent issues and problems
- Providing expert consultation to development teams regarding their overall system design and on-going development work
Position Requirements: - 5+ years of technology experience (any combination of development, QA and support)
- 3+ years hands-on experience selecting, implementing, deploying and utilizing infrastructure tools
- High level of competency in Microsoft Windows Server and SQL-Server administration
- Must be able to demonstrate an ability to develop tiered approaches to system administration/database maintenance that make it possible to share administrative workload.
- Proven ability implementing, debugging and optimizing SQL with a strong focus on Stored Procedures (SPROCS)
- Comfortable getting your hands dirty with implementation
- Experience developing and implementing business continuity plans
- Optional: Experience with Sharepoint, SiteScope and/or Remedy
- Optional: Broader programming experience, particularly with server-side systems using OOP and multi-threaded design
